Australias fresh nationwide self-ban registry for internet and telephone wagering will be dubbed BetStop. This registry will empower Australians to restrict themselves from all authorized online and telephone betting platforms for durations spanning from three months to a lifetime.
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), tasked with overseeing gambling within Australia, has issued industry standards mandating gambling operators to advertise BetStop on their webpages, applications, and promotional content. These standards also delineate how gambling operators can ascertain if a client is enrolled with BetStop and emphasize that operators must cease providing gambling services to a client and deactivate their account if they are registered.
The ACMA asserts that BetStop will be a crucial resource for individuals grappling with gambling-related issues. “BetStop will aid those most susceptible to gambling harm by granting them autonomy and enabling them to self-exclude from all licensed interactive betting platforms through a unified procedure,” stated ACMA Chair Nerida O’Loughlin.
BetStop is projected to be operational in the approaching months.
The ACMA, Australia’s media watchdog, is advising gamblers down under: if you need to ban yourself from internet casinos before the nationwide self-exclusion list is operational, you can contact the wagering platforms directly.
This announcement follows a significant clampdown on unlawful gambling websites in the previous month. The ACMA, in an unprecedented action, directed Australian web service providers to restrict access to “thepokies.net,” a platform suspected of collecting substantial sums in illicit bets.
