Century Resorts recently made a major play in Nevada! They acquired the Golden Chunk Casino and Resort in Sparks, adjacent to the Reno-Tahoe International Airport and Lake Tahoe, for a hefty $100 million. The vendor was Marnell Gaming.
This isn’t merely a gambling establishment; the Golden Chunk boasts two lodging towers, an expansive outdoor event area, ample parking, and a plethora of dining and entertainment choices. Gaming enthusiasts will be delighted by the nearly 900 slot machines and almost 30 table games.
Century’s chief executives, Erwin Haitzmann and Peter Hoetzinger, are enthusiastic about branching into Nevada and view the Golden Chunk as an ideal addition. They’ve already outlined plans for some exciting enhancements, including a refreshed facade, updated signage, and improvements to the slot machine section and eateries. They’re keen to collaborate with the current staff and the Sparks community to elevate the Golden Chunk even further.
This recent purchase brings Century’s casino tally to a remarkable 18, distributed across the US, Canada, and Poland. To finalize the transaction, they obtained financing from Goldman Sachs, who also served as their financial consultant.
Intriguingly, this isn’t Century’s first encounter with the Golden Chunk. Just a few weeks prior, they secured a 50% interest in Smooth Bourbon, the entity that actually holds the land upon which the Golden Chunk resides. The yearly lease for the property? A substantial $15 million.
Century Casinos is making a major play in the casino industry! They are poised to acquire Smooth Bourbon, bringing it under their corporate ownership. This follows closely on the Nevada Gaming Commission’s approval for Century to assume control of the legendary Golden Nugget casino resort just last month. It seems Century Casinos is on a winning streak!
