Belgian Report Indicates Quadruple Rise in New Gambler Enrollments During Euro 2020
A total of 36,418 new gamblers signed up during the European Championship, exceeding four times the 8,846 registered in May. These figures encompass all forms of online gambling during the period, not just sports betting data.

The competition took place from June 11th to July 11th, concluding before the government-sanctioned proposal to decrease Belgium’s weekly loss limit from €500 to €200.

A total of 103,511 new accounts were established in the week leading up to and during the European Championship, while the average daily player count was 191,434. This represents a substantial increase from the 132,818 recorded in May.

A total of 497,047 individuals utilized licensed websites during the tournament, resulting in nearly 6 million participations.

Gamblers tended to wager more when the Belgian national football team competed. Only in the initial match against Russia did the daily player count fall below the tournament average, with 190,453 players active.

The highest point of daily active players was reached at 281,923 during the game between Belgium and Finland. The following day, after Belgium was knocked out, the average number fell to 138,591.

Furthermore, the number of daily self-exclusions rose from an average of eight per day before the game to an average of twelve per day during the game, though daily figures varied considerably.

CJH said in a statement: “It is vital to spread and promote information about gambling prevention. CJH is happy to be able to do this, particularly thanks to the ‘Stop on Time!’ campaign, which is working closely with BAGO (Belgian Gaming Operators Association).

“This campaign has allowed CJH to deliver the message – ‘Don’t let gaming control your thoughts. Stop on time.’ CJH is keen to continue such efforts in the future through partnerships with the legal gambling industry and charitable organizations.”
