Greg Swift Appointed as Chief of Communications and Corporate Affairs at BHA

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has declared the selection of Greg Swift, a former Prime Minister’s representative, as its Chief of Communications and Corporate Affairs.

Swift will join the organization at the end of October, directing the BHA’s recently reorganized Communications and Corporate Affairs division. Robin Munsey has been acting as temporary leader in the period leading up to Swift’s arrival.

The BHA stated that the new department is a part of its broader strategic and structural reform strategy, aiming for a more strategic approach to communications and public relations.

Swift presently serves as the UK government’s Foreign Secretary’s Press Officer and News Secretary. He previously held the position of Head of Communications at the Department for Exiting the European Union, as well as Deputy Official Spokesperson and Press Secretary to the Prime Minister.

Before this, he worked for a number of national newspapers, including as Assistant Editor of the Daily Express.

“British horseracing is one of the most brilliant gems in British sports, providing unmatched entertainment and some of the most memorable sporting events,” Swift remarked.

I am delighted to join the exceptional team at BHA and collaborate towards the shared objectives of all participants in the sector.

BHA Chief Executive Julie Harrington stated: “Greg’s position will entail directing engagement and advocacy with key individuals in the sporting realm, government, and national media outlets. His extensive governmental connections and expertise in political and media communications will be a valuable resource for BHA and the sports industry.

“The reorganization of the communications and corporate affairs division aims to enhance BHA’s capabilities in these domains, enabling us to be more proactive and build upon an already seasoned team.”

This appointment follows the confirmation of Liz Truss as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom yesterday (September 5th). Truss will officially assume office today, replacing Boris Johnson who stepped down earlier this year.

Truss has declared that her top priority as Prime Minister will be to tackle the UK’s energy cost crisis. Last month, the Betting and Gaming Council urged the incoming Prime Minister to address escalating energy prices, which could have a potentially “devastating” impact on the land-based betting industry.
